You do not need any previous floristry experience. During the day, Marcia will guide you through the basics of working with flowers, preparing stems, creating beautiful arrangements, understanding presentation, pricing your work and building confidence with floral design.

Floristry can be flexible. It can work around children, school runs, work, family commitments and other responsibilities. Some people may want to learn floristry as a hobby. Others may want to explore it as a side income, self-employment route or future business.

Our group floristry training is designed to give you practical skills, confidence and a real understanding of how flowers are handled, arranged and presented in a working florist environment.

Our training is friendly, hands-on and supportive. The aim is not to overwhelm you. The aim is to help you understand the foundations of floristry, build confidence and leave with arrangements you are proud of.

No previous experience is needed. Everything is explained clearly on the day.

What You Will Learn

During your training day, you will be introduced to the main skills needed to start working confidently with flowers.

You will learn how to condition and care for fresh flowers, including cutting stems correctly, removing unwanted foliage, hydrating flowers, preparing flowers for use and understanding how to keep flowers looking their best.

You will then move into bouquet and arrangement work, learning how to choose flowers, combine colours, work with texture, create shape, build balance and present flowers beautifully.

The day may include hand-tied bouquet work, wrapped bouquet presentation, florist’s choice style arrangements, vase or basket-style arranging, seasonal flower design and an introduction to occasion-based floristry.

Alongside the practical work, Marcia will also talk through how floristry works in real life, including pricing, reducing waste, choosing stock, taking customer orders, managing expectations, photographing your work and presenting yourself professionally.

What You May Create On The Day

During the course, you will create a selection of floral designs that help you understand different styles and techniques.

This may include:

A hand-tied bouquet
A wrapped florist’s choice style bunch
A larger gift bouquet
A seasonal floral arrangement
A basket or vase-style design
An introduction to occasion flowers
A simple sympathy or tribute-style piece, depending on the session

The exact designs may vary depending on the flowers available, the season and the structure of the training day.

You will take home the flowers and arrangements you create, giving you finished pieces to enjoy, photograph and use as examples of your work.

Learning the Business Side of Flowers

Floristry is creative, but it also needs to make sense as a business if you want to earn from it.

During the day, we will introduce key business basics such as:

How to price your flowers
How to think about profit
How to reduce waste
How to choose flowers for different budgets
How to photograph your work
How to present your designs on social media
How to take customer enquiries
How to manage customer expectations
How to start small and build at your own pace

This course is not just about making flowers look beautiful. It is about helping you understand how floristry can fit into real life.

Optional Business Support

After training, students who want extra support may be able to request further business guidance.

This can include areas such as setting up a small business, creating a simple website, building a social media presence, understanding local marketing, improving product photos, creating service pages, taking online enquiries and presenting your floristry work professionally.

This is optional and separate from the practical floristry training.

Working Around Real Life

One of the reasons floristry appeals to many people is flexibility.

You can start small. You can take on orders when you are ready. You can build around children, school hours, existing work, family commitments or other responsibilities.

Flower Worx Floristry Academy is also open to working with Jobcentre Plus, training providers, employability organisations, local councils, charities and community partners.

Floristry can help people build confidence, routine, communication skills, creativity and practical workplace experience.

Our training can be suitable for people who may benefit from a supportive, creative and hands-on learning environment rather than a traditional classroom setting.

We are open to discussing referral opportunities, group training, employability sessions, community workshops and creative skills programmes.

If you would prefer a more private learning experience, one-to-one floristry training may be a better option.
